  • STF-8050M Monochrome Camera


    The SBIG STF-8050M Camera sports a KAI-08050 8 mp CCD sensor in a 4/3″ optical format. Built upon a cutting-edge 5.5 micron Interline Transfer CCD, this sensor features broad dynamic range, superb imaging efficiency, and a flexible readout design.

    The STF-8050 has been enhanced to provide fast full frame downloads and peak cooling in a compact package the size of an STF. It only takes about 1/2 second to download a high resolution 8.1 mp 16-bit frame using the dual channel readout mode. Despite this ultra fast download rate, the read noise remains especially low at about 9e-.

    The STF-8300EN enhanced cooling option adds a dual stage cooler, increasing the camera’s delta-T capability by about 7 degrees C.  This helps reduce dark current noise when operating the camera in high ambient temperature conditions.

  • STF-8300M (monochrome)


    The STF-8300M cameras are based on ON Semi’s KAF-8300, 8.3 megapixel, full frame CCD.  This CCD array has 3326 x 2504 pixels at 5.4 microns making it ideal for both short fast optics in high resolution (unbinned) mode, and for longer focal lengths it can be binned binned 2×2 or 3×3.  The CCD has both antiblooming and microlens technology to improve the effective Quantum Efficiency of the sensor.  As a result it can be used in a wide variety of optical configurations.  The camera electronics are USB 2.0 for fast download rates and rapid focus mode.  The small light body accepts both C-mount and standard 35mm Nikon camera lenses.  A built-in mechanical shutter is included for automatic dark frames. In addition to its imaging capabilities, it can also be used as a guider.

    SBIG STX-16803

    Our most popular large format camera.  16 megapixel CCD with 9 micron pixels.  Supports options including FW7-STX 7 position Filter Wheel, StarChaser SC-3 guide camera, and AO-X Adaptive Optics.

    The SBIG STX Series represents the ultimate in astronomical imaging systems. The integrated design allows the user to select either Ethernet or high speed USB 2.0 connection to the control computer. The Model STX-16803 uses Kodak’s KAF-16803 CCD with 16 million pixels at 9 microns. The sensor measures almost 37mm square. The STX series has superior cooling to -50 degrees C below ambient with air only. Water-cooling is also possible. STX cameras have internal voltage regulation and may therefore be operated directly from any unregulated 12VDC power supply.

    For guiding, a KAI-340 guide CCD is available in the optional Remote Guide Head, as well as the StarChaser SC-3 off-axis guide camera.  The StarChaser SC-3 is a new self-contained guiding option with built-in AO support.

    The SBIG FW7-STX is a 7-Position, 50mm square filter wheel for STX and Aluma AC series cameras.

    50 mm Square Optical Filters
    SBIG 50 mm square optical filters are compatible with FW7-STX filter wheels, which work with STX-16803 and Aluma AC4040 cameras.  These filters are built for SBIG to our exacting specifications.  All filters are parfocal, which avoids unnecessary refocusing.
